Álvaro is a passionate developer and agile enthusiast with over 23 years of experience. He is now a Principal Member of Technical Staff at Oracle Labs, where he is a Micronaut committer, helping to maintain and evolve the open-source framework. Before that, he was a Staff Engineer at VMWare, where he led the creation of new products to build, package, verify and publish software solutions with confidence in the VMware Marketplace. Previously, he spent some years working in different industries like gambling games (Odobo) and fintech (4Finance). Emily Jiang is a Java Champion. She is Liberty Cloud Native Architect and Chief Advocate, Senior Technical Staff Member (STSM) in IBM, based at Hursley Lab in the UK. Emily is a MicroProfile and Jakarta EE guru and also a book author (ibm.biz/MicroProfileBook). At IBM, she leads the effort of implementing MicroProfile and Jakarta EE specifications on Open Liberty. Ioana is leading development of one of Worldpay’s main technology platforms namely Merchant Billing and funding, and her expertise spans from hands-on coding to strategic planning, talent development and leading teams to enhance the platform using technologies like Java, Spring and Oracle DB. Worldpay processes over 170's of millions events daily, with tight SLAs for scheme clearing, merchants payment and report delivery. The session will cover: how and why we use AWS EMR serverless to service our Big Data needs and our Dockerless approach to developing locally as we strive for environment consistency.

I enjoy balancing my time between my children and my passion for technology. I grew up as a Java Developer with experience in various domains like PLM, Finance, e-commerce, Information Technology. But most of all, I like the current position where I have the chance to automate and expose self-services that make developers’ life easier. If something is done manually and repeatedly, it should be automated in order to give back people’s free time.
